Attributed to the warlord Oda Nobunaga (1534-1582) this terrifying phrase sums up the ruthless Sengoku period of 16th century Japan. Daimyo warlords controlled the country and battled for supremacy with sometimes massive armies of samurai ashigaru and other retainers.
